My Tiger Mom - Assignment Example Music is supposed to be about freedom, right? Not at all! Tiger moms choose what you can play. Playing the piano is a requirement. You can’t just play for fun. You play for the win. FTW- For The Win. I hate that urban acronym. It’s always about that. FTW. You can’t be second in anything, or worse, the third. Excel in almost everything! Or face the wrath of your Tiger mom! At first, I thought I played the piano only for my Mom. But I actually loved it. I loved how my fingers created music. I love my piano. I love my music. I love music. I excelled in playing the piano for some time, but soon enough, my peers surpassed me. Mom wasn’t too pleased. I tried my best, but I gave up. I wanted to do something else. I still play the piano, but only when I feel like it. Only when my soul wants me to. Mom didn’t mind because I was doing great in school. Her priority, I mean, our priority, is academic success. Now, let’s talk about sports. My mom was not into sports so much. But she let me swim. I swam and I was free, but not as free as I wanted to be. I wanted sleepovers and more time with my friends. Not that we talked about these things in China. My friends and I only imagined our days of freedom together, falling in love with strangers, and making mistakes.

Progressivism Essay examples -- Progressivism American History Essays

Progressivism The Progressive Movement in the late nineteenth century, early twentieth century presented quite a situation for historians to conquer. At the turn of the twentieth century political questioning was the norm. Practically every historian that writes about this time period has a different opinion of what made up â€Å"Progressive Movement,† some even going so far to beg the question if it was actually a movement or if it was more of an â€Å"era.† The two are interchanged so often that they have in many ways come to mean the same thing although according to some they are distinctly different. The four works, Richard Hofstadter's The Age of Reform, Peter Filene's "An Obituary for the Progressive Movement," Richard McCormick's "The Discovery that Business Corrupts Politics," Paula Baker's "The Domestication of Politics" all discuss the Progressive â€Å"time period† in varying degrees of depth. The four historians all wrote after the 1950’s when the age in question was clearly over. Richard Hofstadter’s book discussed all facets of the age from the mid to late 1800’s to the early and middle 1900’s he touches on the politics, the economics and the social and societal conditions of the age. The Age of Reform, specifically, covers the time period from the 1870’s to the 1940’s. He includes populism, progressivism and the New Deal as main topics in his book and it is mainly biographical in nature. He discusses which groups attempted certain reforms and the part of the era it occurred during. He attempts to explain why they attempted when they did and the political atmosphere. He even notes the geographic locations of specific â€Å"pushes† in some cases. Hofstadter, like most historians agrees that reform is the defining feature of th... ...gument that there was no actual â€Å"movement.† Anyone with a political affiliation or any interest in politics at the time championed one of the ideas of the progressives. The progressives were the people seeking reforms in all agencies and aspects of life. With the changing time and with the wavering leaders and growing uncertainty of the party politics everyone was attempting to change what they could. The time period between the mid nineteenth century and the mid twentieth century did not house the progressive movement, it was the progressive era. E-Learning makes learning fun for the students by varying the curriculum. The incorporation of visual and oral content must reflect the subject matter into the context use and expand on existing knowledge levels among the students Quizzes, games, and discussions help students use critical thinking skills to identify the correct response by combining visual representations with content Interactions with different outcomes allow the designer to incorporate web-based games. Students watch a video game and select the appropriate animated action response as a best solution to the learning they receive. Loneliness Felt in Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck and...

In the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck and the poem Eleanor Rigby by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, many of the characters are experiencing loneliness. When people feel lonely their way of lifestyle are different then that of someones whos not lonely or them if they were not lonely. Also because they are lonely their actions are different. They portray this in both the novel and the poem. The effects of loneliness on people are displayed in the novel Of Mice and Men through the character of Curleys Wife. As stated, when people feel lonely their actions and way of life are affected. In the plot they show that if it wasnt for Curleys Wifes loneliness she may not have died the way she did. Because she is so lonely she†¦show more content†¦Also through the character of Father McKenzie, they show that he is also like Eleanor Rigby very lonely. They say writing the words of a sermon, that no one will hear, no one comes near. This shows that because of his position in the church and his lifestyle, he doesnt have many friends. His sermons are probably not well written enough to keep the attention of many of the people. Also maybe because of his position in the church, he frightens people from becoming close to him. The theme of this poem is that if Eleanor Rigby and Father McKenzie met one another, then they wouldnt have been so lonely and Eleanor Rigby would not ha ve only been buried with her name. Between the novel Of Mice and Men and the poem Eleanor Rigby there is a controlling idea about loneliness in peoples lives established. The idea is that no matter what the situation is, there is always a need for a companion. As shown through the characterization in the poem and in the novel, there is a unity showing how there is always a need for a human or even an animal companionship. Also the poem and the novel both, through either plot, figurative language and/or metaphors, show the main theme of this essay, loneliness and how peoples lives and actions are significantly affected if they are experiencing loneliness. In conclusion, when people are experiencing loneliness, their actions, as well as their way of life is altered. Also some problems and changes are caused
